Vassar High School Government Students Vote in National Student Mock Election
VASSAR HIGH SCHOOL ā Mrs. Heinleinās Government students took part in a
national mock election on October 24, 2024. Students used a state-of-the art online voting
system as they participated in a mock election program sponsored by the Youth
Leadership Initiative (YLI), a national civic education program based at the University of
Virginia Center for Politics. Millions of students have voted in YLI Mock Elections
making it the largest secure, student-only online mock election in the nation.
STUDENT QUOTES:
āThe upcoming election is going to be life-altering. No matter what the outcome is, lives
will be changed or destroyed, moral decency ignored, and the truth violated. Personally, I
am very scared for the election and how the public will react to the outcome.ā
--Sophomore
āI wonder who will win the election overall and in Michigan. Michigan is a big swing
state with democratic big cities and small republican towns. Most of Michigan is
Republican, but the densely populated areas are Democrat.ā -- Senior
āIām mad because I am one year from voting and canāt vote in this election.ā --Senior
āI like that we had a mock election. I think voting is very important and itās good to have
an understanding of the process. I donāt like any of the presidential candidates, they donāt
respect each other and it shows. Iād prefer one over the other, but to be honest I just wish
weād have better candidates.ā -- Senior
āI think the election is going to be very close and very scary.ā --Senior
Results of the YLI National Mock Election will be available the morning of Monday,
November 1, 2024.

Our MS Halloween Dance last night was a hit! From dancing, games, snacks and more, everyone had a great time! A special thanks to our MS Staff, Administration and everyone that helped make this fun night happen!!

Yesterday, our 10th-grade students visited the MiCareerQuest event. The event provided students with the opportunity to engage with interactive displays highlighting diverse career pathways and talk to employers about the skills and education required for success in their respective fields. Several employers from key industry sectors in Michigan provided students with an interactive, hands-on experience to learn about various Michigan careers that are high in demand.
