Mr. Kennard, Ms. Whitney, Ms. Gorleski, and the Peer-to-Peer team coordinated a special event to raise awareness of student mental health for our 8th-12th grade students. The team arranged for guest speaker Will Heininger from the University of Michigan to visit and speak with students.
During his presentation, Heininger shared his personal journey as a former college football player and discussed the challenges he faced with his own mental health. He spoke openly about the pressures of athletics, the importance of seeking help, and the value of building supportive relationships. His message encouraged students to understand that struggling with mental health is not a sign of weakness and that reaching out for support is an important step toward healing and growth.
The event provided students with an opportunity to hear an authentic and powerful story about resilience, vulnerability, and the importance of mental health awareness. It also reinforced the Peer-to-Peer program’s mission of creating a supportive school environment where students feel comfortable talking about their struggles and seeking help when needed.
