VASSAR PUBLIC SCHOOLS
TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT

Vassar Schools owns and operates twenty-two diesel school buses. Eighteen buses are used daily for regular bus routes for morning and afternoon runs.   Four buses are used for spares in case of breakdowns or extra trips. Ten buses are 77 passenger; the other twelve carry 65 passengers.

Two buses are used daily for the Young-5s class to take morning students home at 11:15 and to bring students in for the afternoon Young-5s class.

In addition we have a morning TechnologyCenter bus and an afternoon TechnologyCenter bus that take high school students to Caro each day. Also, daily at 8:20 Lutheran students are shuttled to St. Luke’s in Vassar and to St. Michael’s in Richville. At 2:45 this shuttle brings those students back to Vassar to catch their buses home.

At 3:00 we have an inter-school shuttle bus bring the B4K and Young-5s students from Townsend North to the bus compound. This bus also stops at Central Elementary for any special needs students that need a ride to the bus compound. In inclement weather, we send three buses to Townsend North and four buses to Central Elementary to bring all bus students to the bus compound.

In the year 2007-2008, our bus fleet traveled a total of 168,248 miles. This total was from the daily routes, special runs/shuttles and sports events.

The two oldest buses in the fleet were purchased in 1992; the newest bus was purchased in 2007. All buses are inspected yearly by the Michigan State Police. The district has received 100% inspections in the last three years.

We have a total of eighteen (18) A.M. and P.M. bus drivers and seven (7) sub bus drivers. We have two bus mechanics.
